Houghton College in Houghton, N.Y., has received $15 million from an anonymous donor.
The gift, the largest in the 117-year history of the Christian liberal arts school and one of the largest in recent years to support music education, will be used to establish a master’s degree program in music.
The gift will be paid over five years and will roughly double the school’s endowment. It follows pledges of $1 million and $2 million made in the past six months to support the school’s unrestricted endowment.
The music degree program, which requires state approval, will be Houghton’s first graduate program.
