Fighting breast cancer – Avon contributes $14M

 |

The largest single corporate gift in the name of breast cancer — nearly $14 million — will be distributed by Avon to seven beneficiaries.

The record-setting gift brings Avon’s breast cancer fundraising results to $55 million, making the company the largest U.S. corporate contributor to fight the disease.

Most of the $14 million gift will fund five grants of $2.2 million each to academic health centers for breast cancer research.

The remaining $3 million will be awarded to organizations that provide free support services to cancer patients throughout the U.S.

The Avon Breast Cancer Crusade, launched in 1993, has raised millions of dollars through the sale of Avon’s pink-ribbon fundraising products and a series of three-day, 60-mile fundraising walks.

The Avon Breast Cancer Crusade is the largest arm of the Avon Worldwide Fund, which has raised $75 million to improve the health of women in such countries as Poland, Malaysia, Argentina and the Philippines.
