 |

The Skillman Foundation, a Detroit-based funder that aims to improve the lives of youth in Michigan, has announced $9.1 million in grants to be distributed to 24 nonprofits in metropolitan Detroit.

The foundation’s first round of grants for 2000 includes $1.5 million to the capital campaign of the Detroit Science Center to renovate its facility; $1.2 million to Southwest Detroit Community Health to educate human service agencies about domestic violence; and $1.2 million to the Third Judicial Circuit Court to develop family visitation centers.

The Skillman Foundation, which hands out $25 million a year in grants, was established by Rose Skillman, widow of Robert H. Skillman, vice president and director of 3M Corp.
