Lutherans raise $290M – Two million members in group

 |

The Aid Association for Lutherans, a fundraising network to assist congregations and communities, raised more than $290 million in 1999 to support disaster relief, Lutheran education and local charities throughout the U.S.

The Wisconsin-based organization, which includes almost two million members, funneled almost $70 million to local charities through its Helping Hands program, which supplements local fundraising by branch members.

The association also provided more than $1 million in disaster relief funds throughout the U.S. in 1999.

In a matching-grant program to support Lutheran educational institutions, the association contributed over $6 million in matching funds.

Nearly $5 million in scholarships were awarded  through one of the nation’s largest privately sponsored scholarship programs.
