Log college revival – Park will be given to city

 |

Caldwell Log College in Greensboro, established by Revolutionary War-era doctor and educator David Caldwell, will be recreated, thanks to a $300,000 gift from the estate of Walter H. Sills.

Sills, who died last year and was the owner of Sills Shoe Store, made the gift to the Greensboro Beautiful Inc.

The nonprofit group is creating a fund for the project at the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro.

The fund will be used to conduct research on the college, and to design, recreate and maintain it. The project consists of a log house located on seven acres adjacent to Bicentennial Park.

Once completed, the project will be turned over to the Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department.
