Latin connection – New site for social development

 |

Spain’s Fundacion Telefonica launched an Internet portal in Buenos Aires on Wednesday designed to connect social organizations to the general public, Agencia EFE reports.

The portal, the Red Iberoamericana Solidaria, is a virtual community for nonprofit organizations focusing on social development and the common good.

RIS is the only community of its kind in Spanish-speaking Latin America.

A local node will exist in each participating nation to ease access to the portal.  RIS also will offer intranet connectivity between social organizations to better respond to their needs.

“Communication technologies are a necessary vector for social progress,” Fundacion Telefonica President Francisco de Bergia said at the launch ceremony.  “In the countries where Telefonica service is available, the company wants to be seen as being concerned about and committed to people’s well-being.”
