$192M for Cambridge – Gates’ gift is England’s biggest

 |

Microsoft Corp. Chairman Bill Gates will give the University of Cambridge $192 million – the largest gift ever to a British university – to fund 230 graduate scholarships, Bloomberg reports.

The gift follows a $20 million gift to the university two years ago to fund a computer laboratory.

A Cambridge University spokeswoman said that negotiations with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation should be completed in the next month or so. She declined to comment on details of the agreement.

This year, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has given $514 million, or 1 percent of Gates’s total wealth, to charities and schools around the world, Bloomberg says.
