$113M for Balkan refugees – Homes rebuilt, camps operated

 |

A leading Austrian politician, journalist and fundraiser has teamed up with several Austrian charities to raise $113 million for refugees in the Balkan countries.

Kurt Bergmann says he and the charities have contributed to the survival of roughly 300,000 people and made it possible for some 50,000 victims of war to survive last winter in heated shelters.

Special focus has been placed on programs for mine victims and on distribution of seeds and home gardens to help people grow their own vegetables in preparation for a harsh winter.

The charitable effort also has rebuilt some 3,000 destroyed homes and together with the Austrian army, operated refugee camps in Albania to support 5,000 people.
