Shine! switched on – Focus on news, giving

 |

By Todd Cohen

The Shine Global Network has launched Shine!, a consumer portal that hopes to be one-stop philanthropic shop for donors, volunteers and nonprofits.

The site features news and information about nonprofits, including financial information on 650,000 nonprofits in the database of the Internal Revenue Service.

Readers also can use the site to make donations to nonprofits, with 100 percent of the donation going to the nonprofit, or to buy consumer goods from about two dozen online retailers and designate a portion of the purchase price to a nonprofit.

The site also helps readers volunteer for nonprofit groups, offers email newsletters on specific issues and lets readers set up their own pages to track individual organizations and causes.

The three founders of Shine! are Craig Wichner, president and CEO, who was a veteran of biotech firm DepoTech; Stephen C. Nill, chief charities officer and general counsel, who founded CharityChannel.com, a family of online forums serving  nonprofit professionals; and Ryan Okum, creator of Virtual Fundraising System, which automates consumer donations to charities.
