The country’s largest Catholic women’s college is receiving $20 million – believed to be the largest unrestricted gift ever made to a women’s Catholic college – from the religious order that founded the school, the Associated Press reported on June 2.
The gift from Sisters of St. Joseph of Cardolet will be distributed over three years to the College of St. Catherine in Minnesota, which has an annual budget of 50 million, communications director Marcy Dowse said.
“This gift underscores that education for women is as critical in this new century as it was in the last,” Dowse said.
The money will be used to increase financial aid; develop and expand programs; and build new facilities for the 4,372 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at the school.
