Foundation enterprise – E-commerce boosts education

 |

Colonial Williamsburg, the restored 18th century capitol of Virginia, will launch a new e-commerce website offering everything from beds to dinnerware on July 4.

The website, www.williamsburgmarketplace.com, will offer reproduction furnishings and accessories to its customers. The website will have historical background about the inspirations for the products, said Vice President of Products Janet Kane, something the paper catalog had no room for. Customers will be able to order the paper catalog through the site, however.

The profits from the website, like those from the mail catalog, will be used to support the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation’s educational programs.

The site was constructed by Arlington Heights, Ill.-based PVI Communications, Ltd.
