$910,000 for Wake – Funds for teachers, training

The Wake Education Partnership, a nonprofit advocacy group for Wake County schools, collected over $910,000 in its most successful fundraising program ever, the News & Observer reported on June 14.

Over 2,000 groups donated to the campaign. The top contributors were IBM Corp. at $68,000, Glaxo Wellcome at $56,000, Carolina Power and Light Co. at $45,500 and the A.J. Fletcher Foundation at $40,000.

The money will help pay for leadership training for principals and assistant principals, teacher development, classroom grants to teachers, technology and teacher recruitment incentives.
