14M refugees – Africans displaced by war

War and conflicts have uprooted 14 million Africans, according to a report by the U.S. Committee for Refugees, the Xinhua News Agency reports.

There are 3 million refugees on the continent, plus 11 million internally displaced persons.

Four countries account for 60 percent of Africa’s uprooted: Sudan, 4.4 million; Angola, 1.8 million; Burundi, 1.1 million; and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, 1 million.

Five countries host about half of Africa’s refugees: 450,000 by Guinea, 410,000 by Tanzania, 360,000 by Sudan, 255,000 by Kenya and 245,000 in Ethiopia.
