Shop for medicine – Web site raises hospital funds

 |

The University of Maryland Medical System has brought its fundraising efforts online with an e-commerce Web site. A portion of each purchase made at the site benefits the hospital.

Visitors to the Web site can support medical programs of their choice as they shop for items like clothes, phone service, insurance and travel plans.

The Web site also includes live chat opportunities with University of Maryland Medical System Foundation staff members about programs. The foundation is responsible for all fundraising, stewardship and endowment management for the hospital system.

The University of Maryland Medical system includes multiple hospitals, 5,300 employees and generated gross revenues of $721 million last year.

Comcast Cable will help launch the site by offering matching contributions to the first $10,000 donated online.
