Officials at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences announced they have reached their $34.5 million fund-raising goal for new exhibits, the News & Observer reported on June 20.
The museum quadrupled in size when it moved to its new location in downtown Raleigh on April 7. The new museum cost $70.5 million, including $34.5 million for exhibits.
Taxpayers were the top contributors to the project. The General Assembly gave $48.5 million for the building and exhibits, and an additional $6.5 million came from federal agencies.
Private corporations, foundations and individuals gave $15.5 million. An anonymous $4 million donation was the top private gift.
