The SBC Foundation will give the NAACP $1 million over the next four years for upgrading the civil rights advocate’s national information network.
The money will be used for the NAACP’s Technology Capacity Building Initiative. The initiative aims to improve the links between the organization’s Baltimore headquarters and its seven regional offices. The NAACP also hopes to use the grant as a catalyst to attract more donations. By 2003, the group plans to offer on-line membership, on-line convention registration and other services.
The SBC Foundation is the philanthropic arm of SBC Communications. The foundation funds practical technological applications for education, health, and community development.
