PBS has announced a new series and a study showing that television can improve literacy among children, the Associated Press reported July 12.
“Cyberchase,” set to debut in winter 2002, hopes to make math and logic exciting for 8 to 11-year-olds. The National Science Foundation is among those funding the series.
According to a study by University of Kansas researchers, kindergarteners who watched about eight hours of the new PBS series “Between the Lions” over the course of a month had improved basic reading skills. First-graders also showed reading gains, but these could not be definitively attributed to the series.
