Media mogul Ted Turner has announced plans to allot $42 million of his United Nations Foundation funds to social and environmental projects, the Associated Press reported July 25.
“Working with the UN, we have developed an exciting program to help protect some of the world’s most important natural resources,” Turner said in a statement.
Brazilian First Lady Ruth Cardoso, who sits on the foundation’s board of directors, told AP another focus would be improving the lives of adolescent girls.
Turner created the foundation in 1998 after pledging to donate $1 billion to the United Nations the year before.
