Ronald McDonald Charities has announced an initiative to provide free medical and dental care to children in disadvantaged neighborhoods through mobile healthcare vehicles.
The Ronald McDonald Care Mobile Program will launch a fleet of eight vehicles later this year. In December, the program will expand outside of the U.S. with a vehicle in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Each mobile unit will house two patient examination rooms and will include prenatal examination equipment, a laboratory, a reception and a medical records area. Some units will have a hearing screen booth, while others will have a dental hygiene room.
The core of each team will be a pediatrician, a pediatric nurse and a unit manager. The teams may also include a social worker, a dental hygienist or an asthma specialist.
