Grantmakers will be able to use the same software program to accept Internet grant applications and check the background of the applicants, thanks to a new partnership between MicroEdge Inc. and GuideStar.
MicroEdge, Inc. is the creator of GIFTS for Windows, software that automates grant applications for both private foundations and corporate giving programs.
Starting this summer, GIFTS will automatically link to the GuideStar online database. The database contains data from IRS returns for all nonprofits in the country, over 620,000 of them, as well as additional information supplied by the nonprofits themselves.
The combination will allow grantmakers to review Internet applications and perform due diligence on applicants with the same program.
