$40M for arts center – Key to $200M campaign

 |

Philanthropist Henry Segerstrom is giving $40 million to build a 2,000-seat concert hall at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa, Calif., the Los Angeles Times reported Aug. 18.

The gift, one of the largest ever in Orange County, is the cornerstore of a $200 million campaign to expand the center from a single large hall to a complex with three major stages.

The gift brings to $65 million the amount raised for the project.

The Segerstrom family, a farming dynasty that owns South Coast Plaza, donated the land and $6 million for the existing center and the South Coast Repertory theater more than 20 years ago.

Segerstrom also donated six acres valued at $13.2 million for the expansion.
