$1M for women – Boost for 5-year program

 |

The West Foundation in Indianapolis is giving $1 million to the international arm of the Women in Literacy: Women in Action campaign of Laubach Literacy, the world’s largest literacy organization, the Associated Press reported Aug. 29.

The gift will allow Laubach award direct grants to their grassroots partners in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East.

The group expects 400,000 women will gain access to and apply literacy skills they need to improve their lives through the five-year Women in Action program.

“Not only will this grant help hundreds of thousands of women worldwide, but these women will take their literacy skills home with them and transform their households, neighborhoods and their communities,” Kirk Shisler, director of fund development for Laubach Literacy, told AP.
