Toyota Motor Manufacturing North America, Inc. is giving $1 million to the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, a national interactive learning center to be built in Cincinnati, Ohio, the Associated Press reported Aug. 30.
The Freedom Center commemorates first human rights movement in the U.S. – a series of networks to freedom for slaves during the period of the antebellum-South. The center will open on Cincinnati’s riverfront by 2004.
“This is our first major gift from a corporation headquartered outside the United States,” said John Pepper, co-chair of the freedom Center’s $90 million capital campaign. “The gift signals the global and universal importance and relevance of our purpose,”
