Score for NCAA – Rewarding scholar athletes

Colleges and universities with the highest rates of graduating student athletes will be recognized with a new scholarship program, thanks to a gift of more than $2.5 million gift from USA Today to the NCAA Foundation, the Associated Press reported Aug. 31.

The program will grant nine scholarships totaling $250,000 a year for the next five years. Schools chosen as recipients will receive $25,000 each and will individually determine how to best use the scholarship money.

Competition for the awards will begin during the current academic year and all 972 member schools in all divisions of the NCAA are eligible to apply.
