Online overseas – Outpacing expectations

 |

Internet use outside the U.S. appears to be rising faster than predicted last year, according to a study by the United States Internet Council.

The increase in the number of non-English sites, combined with rapidly rising numbers of Internet users abroad, is transforming the Internet into an international communications medium.

While Americans continue to be the largest block of the online population, Europe and Asia have an estimated 15 million more users than last year.

The study, conducted with International Technology and Trade Associates, tracked trends in worldwide growth of email use and e-commerce on the Web.
