Mogul gives mobility – Program in 58 countries

 |

Blackhawk real estate tycoon Kenneth Behring has pledged $15 million to establish the Wheelchairs for the World Foundation, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Sept. 8.

The organization is delivering 30,000 wheelchairs to poor, disabled people in 58 countries. Behring often delivers the chairs in person.

The foundation hopes to raise $150 million to deliver 1 million additional wheelchairs over the next five years.  To meet this goal, Behring is soliciting contributions from corporations, other foundations and individuals.

Globally, an estimated 21 million people cannot walk and less than one percent of those own or have access to wheelchairs.
