Iran charity closed – Questions about spending

 |

Britain’s charities watchdog shut down an Iranian charity accused of having links to an armed group that opposes Iran’s government, Reuters reported Sept. 15.

The Charity Commission said a two-year investigation had failed to determine whether money donated by the British public actually was spent on charitable work in Iran.

The commission said it received complaints in March 1998 that funds raised by Iran Aid were going to Mujahideen Khalq, an armed group.

Iran Aid consistently has denied the charge.
