$80M for Smithsonian – Billionaire also gave $20M

The National Museum of American History at the Smithsonian Institution is getting $80 million for new exhibits, thanks to a California developer and philanthropist, The New York Times reported Sept. 18.

Kenneth E. Behring, a home-builder who gave $20 million three years ago to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History, said he hoped his gift – the Smithsonian’s largest ever — would prompt the museum to focus on the contributions that individuals had made to freedom and national prosperity, the Times said.
