The University of Notre Dame has become the first Catholic university to raise more than $1 billion in a capital campaign.
The three-year “Generations” campaign has beaten its fundraising goal by more than 30 percent, with three and a half months remaining.
Notre Dame joins Princeton University as the only institution without a medical school to reach the milestone. It is the 18th university overall to exceed $1 billion.
Campaign funds will boost student scholarship funds, endowed faculty positions, libraries, new facilities and academic programs.
