$17M for journalism – Two schools get chairs

 |

The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and the University of California at Berkeley each have new tenured teaching posts thanks the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.

The schools will receive $1.5 million grants as 15th and 16th recipients of the Knight Chair in Journalism program.

The University of Illinois will hire its Knight professor to take advantage of its growing emphasis on investigative and enterprise reporting. At Berkeley, the Knight professor will concentrate on science and technology.

In September, Knight Foundation trustees approved 25 journalism grants totaling $17 million for schools and nonprofit organizations supporting journalistic excellence and protecting a free press throughout the world.
