NEWS RELEASE NEW PLANNING RESOURCE FOR ARTS ORGANIZATIONS The National Assembly of State Arts Agencies (NASAA) is proud to announce the recent publication of A STATE ARTS AGENCY STRATEGIC PLANNING TOOLKIT, a comprehensive, step-by-step guide to strategic planning written by noted consultant Morrie Warshawski, with Kelly J. Barsdate and Jonathan Katz of NASAA. NASAA’s latest toolkit helps cultural organizations respond strategically to a rapidly changing environment, and builds the planning skills of volunteer and professional cultural leaders. The publication identifies the hallmarks of excellence in planning and gives practical advice about planning’s many challenges: choosing a process, finding funding, building partnerships, securing public input, working with consultants, doing an environmental scan and keeping the plan alive during implementation. Five detailed case studies reveal the results of good planning, as do several examples of innovative planning approaches from other sectors and self-evaluation checklists that any cultural organization can use. The toolkit is the latest edition in NASAA’s “how-to” series that includes the Performance Measurement Toolkit and Measuring Your Arts Economy.
