$15M for science – Unrestricted grants

Two-dozen young science and engineering researchers at 22 universities in the U.S. are getting five-year fellowships worth $625,000 from the

David and Lucile Packard Foundation in Los Altos, Calif.

The 13-year-old fellowships program, which supports scientific research for 24 new faculty members, is one of the largest non-governmental programs of unrestricted grants to young university faculty in science and engineering.

Since 1988, the foundation has awarded fellowships totaling $144 million to 272 faculty members at 50 U.S. school.
