$26.5M windfall – Research in social work

Two programs at the University of Southern California will benefit from a $26.5 million gift from an anonymous donor.

A total of $20 million has been designated to increase the number of female professors in the university’s science and engineering departments, and to encourage middle-school girls to focus on science education.

The gift will be used to fund new faculty positions in the sciences, upgrade laboratories, increase scholarships for students and pay for child care.

The remaining $6.5 million will fund improvements at the university’s School of Social Work, including the construction of a new research wing.
