Wiring nonprofits – Regional headquarters

 |

By Todd Cohen

DURHAM, N.C. — NetCorps, a nonprofit in Eugene, Ore., that recruits students to put their tech know-how to work for nonprofits, has opened a Triangle office – its first satellite operation.

The office is headed by Matthew Latterell, the group’s interim executive director and former assistant dean for educational and informational technology at the University of Oregon School of Law.

Since early 1998, NetCorps has matched about 30 students — four to six a semester — with about 80 nonprofits.

“We need to develop a pool of technically savvy young nonprofit leaders,” said Latterell, who hopes within six months to a year to connect up to half-a-dozen students from area colleges with local nonprofits.

NetCorps’ Raleigh-Durham staff will include an internship coordinator and a tech consultant who will work with nonprofits. The group aims to expand its Triangle initiative to other areas of the state and nearby states.

For information, call Latterell at (919) 286-9308.
