Falling short – 1999 total exceeded

 |

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – Beating the fundraising record it set last year but failing to meet this year’s $26.8 million goal, the Triangle United Way has extended its annual fall campaign by one month.

The campaign, which was to have concluded Thursday evening with a thank-you event, has raised $25.9 million – nearly $1 million more than was raised in 1999.

Molly Broad, president of the University of North Carolina System and chair of this year’s regional campaign, said in a statement that the drive was being extended to “make sure that we raise every last dollar possible to help meet needs on the front lines.”

Final results will be announced Dec. 12.
