Employees pitch in – Firm donates $3.5M

 |

More than 300 employees of Morgan Stanley Dean Witter are contributing more than $55 million to help build a new $120 million children’s hospital at New York Presbyterian Hospital.

The fund drive began in April 1999 with the dedication of the Morgan Stanley Dean Witter Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, for which the firm donated $3.5 million.

The firm, which at the time aimed to raise funds to expand and improve all of the hospital’s pediatric care, took nine months to secure commitments for contributions from its employees.

The Morgan Stanley Dean Witter Children’s Hospital of New York will house both in-patient and diagnostic services, including neonatal and pediatric intensive care units.

The facility will feature single-patient rooms with bedside Internet access. Each floor will have its own child and family centers.

The nine-story, 250,000 square foot facility is scheduled to open in March 2003.
