Tobacco gift – Foes blast school

The University of Nottingham is using a $5.7 million gift from British American Tobacco to build Britain’s first International Center for Corporate Social Responsibility, the Associated Press reported Dec. 5.

Anti-tobacco campaigners blasted the university’s decision to accept the money, dismissing the gift as “another example of the tobacco companies attempt to buy respectability.”

British American Tobacco brushed off the criticism, calling the university donation a step in the learning process for the entire business world.
