$130M for Rensselaer – School’s largest gift

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y., has received an anonymous gift of $130 million – its biggest gift ever and one of the 10 largest to a U.S. university, The New York Times reported Dec. 13.

The gift to the region al research university will pay for two major new buildings: one for biotechnology research and the other for electronic media and the performing arts.

Shirley Ann Jackson, the school’s president, said she hoped to expand its annual grants and other financing to $100 million within five years, up from $40 million now, and to emphasize biotechnology and information technology.
