$105M for genomics – Record-breaking grant

 |

Indiana University has received $105 million, its largest gift ever, from the Lilly Endowment to fund genetics research.

The grant, which will finance a new project called the Indiana Genomics Initiative, also marks the largest single gift ever awarded by the endowment.

The initiative hopes to build on the university’s current investments in genomic research and academic computing resources by advancing educational opportunities for master’s and doctoral degree scientists and computer specialists.

The gift will allow Indiana to hire more scientists and faculty, finance the expansion of its supercomputer system and open a center devoted to the study of biomedical ethics.
