U.S./world – Hot potatoes – Moving 20M pounds

 |

Twenty million pounds of Idaho potatoes need a lift.

Donated by the Potato Management Co., an Idaho growers co-op, to America’s Second Harvest, a network of more than 200 food banks and food-rescue groups, the potatoes must be moved within 90 days so growers can get ready for next summer’s crop.

America’s Second Harvest has launched a Web site to raise money to pay for delivering the potatoes, which will fill an estimated 500 truckloads.

The charity says the cost of hauling the potatoes – which represent the biggest single donation in it’s 21-year history — will be more than $1 million.
