Pediatric shot in arm – $250M drive launched

 |

One good philanthropic turn spawned another, netting $50 million for Children’s Hospital in Washington, D.C., as it launched a $250 million capital campaign, The Washington Post reported March 16.

Joseph E. Robert Jr. and his wife, Jill, pledged $25 million over 10 years – prompting Diana L. Goldberg, the chairwoman of the Children’s Hospital Foundation and head of its fundraising campaign, to join her husband, Stephen, in matching the pledge, the Post reported.

The hospital, which has an endowment of $30 million and posted a $20 million loss last year, says the twin donations represent the biggest personal gifts ever to a U.S. pediatric hospital.
