GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Clubs of Greensboro raised $50,000 at its annual fundraising dinner, doubling last year’s total.

The event, sponsored by Outback Steakhouse and held at the new ballroom in the student union at N.C. A&T State University, attracted 300 people and featured former N.C. State basketball star David Thompson as guest speaker.

Four basketballs were auction, each signed by players on an Atlantic Coast Conference team. Winning bids included $200 for the Wake Forest ball, $300 for N.C. State, $2,500 for UNC-Chapel Hill and $3,000 for Duke.

Co-chairs for the event were Jay Harris, vice president for SterlingSouth Bank & Trust Co., and Bo Rodenbough, a lawyer with Brooks, Pierce, McLendon, Humphrey & Leonard.
