Stanford on top – $485M for Harvard

Stanford passed Harvard to claim the fundraising crown among U.S. colleges last year, The Mercury News reported April 29.

Stanford University raised $580 million in the 1999-2000 school year, up 82 percent from a year earlier, while Harvard raised $485 million, according to the annual report of the Council for Aid to Education.

Stanford received a big boost with 100 donations of $1 million or more, the Mercury News said.

Harvard was the top fundraiser among colleges for most of the 1990s, the newspaper said.
