Wired elders – Focus on benefits

Elder Americans now can turn to a Web site to find out how to sign up for federal and state benefits, the Associated Press reported June 4.

The site, BenefitsCheckUp, features a database of roughly 1,000 federal and state programs for the elderly.

Visitors can fill out a confidential questionnaire, and find out programs for which they’re qualified and how to apply.

The site, which is hosted and advertised for free by AOL Time Warner, is a nonprofit initiative led by the National Council on the Aging.

Lucent Technologies and New York Life also contributed, AP said.
