Sharon Carr Harrington, a lawyer who has worked in the government and nonprofit sectors, has been named vice president for donor services at the Foundation for the Carolinas in Charlotte.

Harrington, a Delaware native who earned a law degree at Duke University in Durham, will head the foundation’s customer service and gift transfer activities.

Harrington was director of the New Orleans Department of Sanitation and a member of the mayor’s cabinet, directing the city’s environment management efforts, and was a staff attorney and community liaison officer for the Louisiana office of the Sierra Club Legal Defense Fund.

She also was assistant director of the Solid Waste Services Department in Charlotte.
