The Ford Foundation announced its first winners of the Leadership for a Changing World (L.C.W.) awards program. The 20 awardees, selected from 36 finalists in a pool of more than 3,000 nominations, represent individuals and leadership teams that are getting results tackling tough social problems in communities across the United States. L.C.W., started in September 2000, is a program of the Ford Foundation in partnership with the Washington-based Advocacy Institute and the Robert F. Hope Haven, Inc., an agency of The United Way of Central Carolinas, is sponsoring a unique training program for emerging community leaders, on Wednesday, October 17, 2001, in Charlotte, North Carolina at 11:30 am. This is the first event in a newly-established alumni program. The keynote speaker will be Jerry Fox, retired Mecklenburg County Manager, and Chair of the Homeless Task Force.
