Heart walk – $150,000 goal

 |

The American Heart Association hopes to raise $150,000 at its Triangle American Heart Walk on Nov. 4 at the Sheraton Imperial in Research Triangle Park.

One-fourth of the proceeds from the walk, expected to attract 2,000 walkers, will support the group’s national office, which has donated $150,000 to the International Association of Firefighters in the wake of Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The remainder will support local programs, including Operation Stroke, a new initiative to prepare people to deal with the nation’s third-most-deadly disease.

Chairing the walk is Paul Pope, vice president of community relations for Capitol Broadcasting Co.
