Faculty support – $75M goal

 |

By Donnie Stanley

DURHAM, N.C.—Duke University received a $25 million gift that aims to encourage $50 million in additional support for endowed teaching positions and research grants, equipment and sabbaticals.

Peter and Ginny Nicholas, alumni and co-leaders of Duke’s $2 billion capital campaign, now have given more than $56 million to the Duke — including $20 million to the School of Environment and Earth Sciences in 1995 – making them the largest individual donors to the school.

By matching $1 to every $2 in new donations, the new gift — the largest Duke has received in direct support for faculty — should yield $75 million within two years, Duke said.
