Blue Cross giving $1M to UNC

A new research center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill focusing on environmental health, epidemoiology and nutrition is getting a $1 million boost from the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation.

The foundation, created in 2000 with $15 million from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, is awarding the funds over four years.

The School of Public Health at UNC-CH, which will break ground for the 125,000-square-foot center this summer, has raised $35 million in the quiet phase of the university’s new capital campaign, which is expected to total as much as $1.5 billion.
