Run to benefit Hospice

 |

As many as 800 runners and walkers are expected to take part April 20 in the 6th Annual Hospice Hope Run, a 10K race and 5K fitness walk in Winston-Salem.

The event, beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Ernie Shore Field – where the race also ends — should net at least $51,000, says Ann Gauthreaux, public relations manager for Hospice & Palliative CareCenter.

BB&T is the main sponsor of the event, one of several Hospice fundraising efforts. Other include a golf tournament, scheduled for Aug. 9 at Reynolds Park Golf Course, and an end-of-year ornament sale and  end-of-year direct-mail campaign.

All of Hospice’s fundraising efforts, including grants and United Way contributions, aim to raise about $1.5 million of a roughly $10 million annual budget not covered by reimbursements for Hospice clients from Medicare, Medicaid and third-party insurers.

Hospice Hope Run participants also may purchase ribbons and mile markers. Call 336-768-3972.
